Artist Statement

The mixtures of premeditated kind of abstraction between using sparing geometric forms and measuredly executed, combined with the gestural expressionist represented my own coding and symbolisms for my ideation and concepts, a balance of paradox between incidental and accidental effect during the art-making.  The over layers of colours depict the concept of covering and masking in parallel with my interpretation of Zedeck Siew’s  White Mask.  I am also a material scientist who is trained to look at things in a different way. I looked at very small things that are magnified using microscopic equipment and things in their most basic form. Things that can’t be seen by the naked eye; things that are not there but always exist beyond physicality. How does one looks beyond that; beyond the form that represents or define you? Adopting this micro view in my life has made me seek deep within my inner self and magnify the many colourful layers within the magnificent and vibrant soul. Hence, from this micro view, I have interpreted and visualized Zedeck Siew’s White Masks and came up with three paintings.
